Nioaka received a message from the City of Stockton Animal Shelter about a dog who desperately needed her help. Nioaka recalled receiving a photo of an obese Chiweenie pup named Faith, and she knew she had to do something from the moment she laid eyes on her.
Nioaka was told that Faith came in at the shelter as a stray. The rescuers immediately checked Faith’s weight, and they were shocked to see because of how morbidly obese the Chiweenie was.
Nioaka admitted that the first thing she thought of when she saw the 30-pound dog was how anyone could let her get in such horrible shape. Faith’s weight hindered her quality of life, and she could not enjoy doing things that normal pups do.
Nioaka decided to foster Faith as soon as she met her. Nioaka said that Faith wanted to walk and see what her dogs were doing, but she struggled to walk and play with other pups.
Nioaka and her family picked Faith up and carried her everywhere because she gets exhausted after taking a few steps at a time. Nioaka went to the vet to have Faith examined, and the first thing the doctors told her was that Faith needs to lose at least half of her weight.
Nioaka admitted that she was not sure what she got herself into at the start of Faith’s weight loss journey. However, the doctors guided her by telling her she needed to change Faith’s food and attend physical rehabilitation four times a week.
Nioaka saw how motivated Faith was. The rehab facility was patient with Faith and took everything slowly since they did not want her to feel overwhelmed or pressured.
Nioaka said that Faith’s personality started to show as she became lighter. Faith eventually lost weight, and everyone could not be proud of how far she has come with her journey.
